Abstract: In carbonate buffer solution, the chemiluminescent properties of Luminol-H2O2 catalyzed by CeO2 nanoparticles has strong dependence on pH, CeO2 nanoparticles storage time and H2O2 dependence. In the range of pH 9.15-11.48, it showed chemiluminescence (CL) inhibition, however, in range of pH 11.68-11.90, it displayed CL enhancement. The performance of freshly prepared nanoparticles exhibited two catalytic effect (inhibition or enhancement), and the nanoparticles stored for more than 24 h, shows sensitization effect.CL inhibition was obtained in low H2O2 concentration and CL enhancement could be observed in high H2O2 concentration.A preliminary hypothesis that the catalytic properties of CeO2 nanoparticles on luminol and H2O2 tuned by Ce3+ and Ce4+ valence state has been proposed in this paper.
