Abstract: The paper demonstrated the determination of concentrations of the five metal elements(Cu,Zn,Cd,Pb,Cr) in same representative species of commercial fishes. The contents of the five metal elements in the body of fish were determined by ICP-AES after digesting by microwave heating. The recoveries of the elements ranged mostly from 91% to 101% and the RSDs were within 3%.The investigation revealed that the contents of the heavy metals in various species and the distributions of the heavy metals in various organs and tissues of the fishes were quite different.Life essential element Zn and Cu content are higher and mainly exists in the liver and the internal organs. But toxic metals mainly are accumulated in scales and gills.Based on the investigation,an evaluation was made for safety of edible fishes.
